A remarkable lady was in fine form after celebrating her 95th birthday at a restaurant where she was its first ever customer 14 years ago.

Vera O’Brien visits City View restaurant at Shooters Hill Sixth Form College once a month.

Students who run the restaurant sang happy birthday to Vera who returned to celebrate her birthday.

"I’m over the moon," the birthday girl said. "Thank you so much for making this a very special day."

She was the restaurant’s first ever customer and students presented her with a bouquet and a special cake to go along with her three-course meal on her latest visit.

Vera is a former guide leader and still helps with the Rainbows, the youngest section of girl guiding.

She also helps children twice a week with maths and English lessons as part of the Kumon education network.
