So when the suggestion of a round of golf was mentioned, he of course took up the offer.

But what he wasn't expecting was to meet a star-studded sporting cast when he was taken to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Rays of Sunshine, with the help of Modest Golf Management Founders, Niall Horan and Mark McDonnell, made Joe’s wish to meet McIlroy come true, as he also got to rub shoulders with the likes of Ben Stokes, Kevin Pieterson Butler and Danny Willett.

Before his wish, Joe's Mum Antonietta said: "Words will never be able to express the gratitude we have for you all.

"You will never know what these experiences mean to us and to see his face tomorrow will make all this pain just that little bit more bearable even if it’s for just one day.

"There is no end to how far you guys go to making our young people feel so special."

While at the course, his favourite cricketer Jos Buttler even gave Joe a signed glove that he wore during the game.

After his wish, Joe said: "Thank you so much Rays of Sunshine.

"I couldn’t have asked for anything more, it was an amazing day and such a great experience for me and my family."
