Albert Adomah’s second-half strike was enough to cancel out Lyle Taylor’s header in Charlton’s midweek Championship fixture against Nottingham Forrest.

Charlton failed to take advantage of a dominant first half, as Jonathan Leko hit the post before Taylor’s opener in the 18th minute.

First Half

Lee Bowyer made four changes to the side that drew against Barnsley on Saturday by granting new signing Ehrun Oztumer his debut for The Addicks as well as reinstating Naby Sarr, Deji Oshilaja, and Sam Field to the side.

Charlton started the game in the same fashion they have their season – on fire.

In the opening minute, Leko’s flicked header from Josh Cullen’s corner was pushed onto the post by Forrest keeper Ariljanet Muric.

Injected with confidence The Addicks went close again minutes later when Conor Gallagher went searching for his third goal of the season when Muric saved his poked effort from point-blank range.

After stringing a total of 22 passes together, Charlton then finally thought that opening the scoring on 18 minutes would be a good idea.

None other than Lyle Taylor managed to beat his man inside the six-yard box when he got his head on the end of Leko’s cross from the right flank that ensured he maintains scoring in every Championship match thus far.

After conceding Forrest retracted further into their shell and allowed the Charlton midfield to intricately play around them as they allowed the first half to rollout without them having a shot on target.

Second Half

The opening minutes of the second-half saw Forrest peg Charlton around their 18-yard box as both Carl Jenkinson and Jack Robinson bombed on from full-back.

However, Forrest’s cameo in Charlton’s half was cut short by The Addick’s resilience to add a second goal, as Lyle Taylor showcased pace and skill before squaring to Leko who blasted over from 10-yards.

Forrest’s first clear cut opportunity came against the run of play on 78 minutes as Charlton failed to clear their lines from a corner, and Forrest substitute Albert Adomah rifled home the loose ball into the back of the net from six-yards.

The goal instilled life back into Forrest’s play as the match nearly turned on its head when Lewis Grabban’s effort was headed off the line by Deji Oshilaja in the 85th minute.

However, the Addicks defended buoyantly to ensure that they maintain their unbeaten start to life back in the Championship.

Verdict:

The Addick’s portrayed real quality in the first-half as they managed

to carry out over 300 passes. However, the second half witnessed a different team as several Charlton’s players were stretching at any given opportunity.

It allowed Forrest to eventually find their way back into the game

and meant the Addick’s were defending their lead in the dying moments. If they are going to maintain their unbelievable run they will need to improve their fitness.
