A suspect arrested in the wake of a fatal hit-and-run in Chessington has been charged with weapon and drug offences.

19-year-old Martin Eastwood from Epsom was arrested on Thursday (August 15) in connection to the brutal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of Liam Dent on Moor Lane in Chessington on Friday, July 26.

Mr Eastwood appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (August 17) where he was remanded in custody.

He was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and possession of Class B drugs, a Met Police spokesperson told the Comet on Tuesday (August 20).

The hit-and-run attack, which claimed the life of Mr Dent after he was "dragged under a car for some distance" according to police, prompted a murder investigation.

Mr Eastwood was one of several people arrested in connection to the killing.

On Thursday, August 1, a 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of murder by officers in Surrey on behalf of the Met, and taken to a local police station.

He has since been bailed to a date in September.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday, August 8, at an address in Epsom.

He has been released on bail to a date in September.

A 17-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

She has since been bailed to return on a date in mid-September.

On August 15, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Mr Dent.

The spokesperson for the Met told the Comet Tuesday (August 20) that the 19-year-old man arrested in connection to the murder had since been bailed.

The Met pointed out that they did not confirm that the 19-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder and the man charged with weapon and drug offences were one and the same.
