Chris Solly will miss the visit of Nottingham Forest at The Valley next week after he suffered a concussion in Charlton’s 2-2 draw with Barnsley.

His 300th appearance for the Addicks didn’t go to plan as a clash of heads with Ben Williams forced him to be replaced with Deji Oshilaja just 24 minutes in.

Charlton overcame the setback, twice cancelling out Barnsley’s leads through Conor Gallagher and Lyle Taylor, but Solly will now be unavailable for Wednesday night.

Bowyer said: “I think he was out before he hit the floor, he wasn’t making much sense. He was trying to walk off and say, ‘I’ll be okay Bow, I’ll be okay’, and I’m looking at him thinking, ‘You don’t even know where I am’.

“We obviously had to take him off.

“I think it’s like a two-week thing [the concussion protocol], if I remember what George [Lapslie] was going through last year, so yeah. Sols will be out for a couple of weeks now, I think.”

With Anfernee Dijksteel having departed for fellow Championship rivals Middlesbrough, the injury setback means Bowyer will look towards newcomer Oshilaja.

The defender, who joined this summer after leaving AFC Wimbledon, can slot in across the back four in several positions and made a 66-minute cameo in the 2-2 draw at Oakwell.

However, that doesn’t change Bowyer’s desire to bring in another right-back as he wants to acquire the “right person” first.

Bowyer added: “That's the hands we're going to be dealt so I'm okay with it [Solly’s injury]. We knew when we brought Deji in that he was versatile and he can play all across the back four – he can play right-back, left-back, centre-half.

“We knew that so that's why it wasn't such a rush for us to bring in someone to replace Anfernee because we knew we always had Deji, and that's why we didn't really want to waste a loan on the right-back because it just wasn't worth it.

“I'd rather have an extra attacking player.

“Nothing's changed, I'm still trying to bring in a right-back, but I'm not going to rush it. We have to bring in the right person that's going to suit the way we play.”
