A signalling fault at West Croydon is causing severe disruption this morning.

Trains travelling from and towards the station may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Staff discovered multiple failures of signalling points in the area due to a defective cable shortly after 5am.

Network Rail engineers attended the site, and have successfully resolved the issue allowing services between West Croydon and Sutton to re-commence.

This will be a gradual process as a number of trains which would have already been in service are yet to leave the depot.

The disruption is expected to continue until 10:00.

Trains between West Croydon and Epsom Downs have been affected.

The first service to operate will be the 07:56 from Dorking towards London, and the 08:25 service from London Bridge towards Epsom.

Southern is operating a reduced service to and from Sutton with services connecting to London via Hackbridge. Thameslink services are operating a normal service from this station.

Customers are advised to avoid travelling to West Croydon station, instead travelling to East Croydon and seeking an alternative route.

The following ticket acceptance will be in place at no extra cost:

Tramlink between East Croydon and Wimbledon via West Croydon

Thameslink services between East Croydon / Wimbledon and London Bridge

London Buses between Norwood Junction and Epsom

South Western Railway between Dorking and London Waterloo

London Underground between Wimbledon / Morden and London Terminals
