A person has died at Wimbledon station this afternoon.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said that they were called at 3.47pm today following a report of a casualty on the tracks at the station. 

"Officers are currently at the scene alongside paramedics, however a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene," the spokesman said.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their next of kin.

"A report will also be prepared for the coroner."

Initially it was believed that the person was hit by a train. But multiple witnesses have now said the person was electrocuted by the tracks.

BTP have been contacted for further comment.

A message posted by National Rail said that as a result, trains are expected to be delayed throughout tonight
"This is causing disruption to trains through the station," the message read.
"Trains may be delayed or cancelled until approximately 8pm."
