A mother and daughter duo from Morden have published their first poetry books in the hope of bringing out a few smiles.

Mum-of-two Pauline Deakin was published this summer by London Poetry Books, who also put out her daughter Amy Deakin’s collection in 2017.

A former librarian turned poet, Pauline's debut 'Dreams, Screams and Washing Machines' looks at the funny side of domestic life in suburban London, including stories about bringing up her daughter.

"I have always written poetry, but never thought that I would get them published," Pauline said.

"As I’m approaching 60 this year, it just shows that it’s never too late to share your creative side."

Her daughter Amy also published a tongue-in-cheek exploration of her home town with 'Morden and Other Tourist Destinations'.

The family duo have been writing together for years and say they the generational divide inspires each other.

"Writing is in my genes, and I’ve always been inspired by my mum’s poetry and lyric writing," Amy added.

"I’m so glad she’s taken the plunge to share her work with a wider audience."
