A pre-school in Epsom celebrated with the mayor after being judged "Outstanding in all areas" by the Ofsted education standards body.

Ofsted visited the school in March earlier this year and were so impressed they awarded St Martin's the highest grade possible for such an inspection — "Outstanding" in all aspects of the services they provide.

Offering further details on the Epsom's pre-school's achievements, a spokesman for Ofsted said: "The manager and her staff are totally dedicated and caring. Children are prepared exceptionally well for their future learning.

"Consistently high-quality teaching ensures that children make exceptionally strong progress."

The manager, Hayley Dawson, said she was "absolutely delighted" with the result.

Staff and children at the pre-school have since celebrated appropriately after the news was announced.

A spokeswoman for the pre-school said: "The committee and staff held a garden party on July 12, attended by the Mayor Councillor John Beckett and Mayoress Mrs Alison Beckett, to celebrate the fantastic achievement, together with their 10-year anniversary in their premises."

St Martin's Pre-school is a charity and has been based in Epsom since 1973.

For many years it was run from the church hall at St Martin’s Church, Epsom, before moving to its current location at the purpose-built Pre-School building within the Children’s Centre on Worple Road, Epsom, in September 2009.
