A teenager who was stabbed to death in Croydon has been named as 19-year-old Kye Manning.

On Saturday, one of the five men arrested in connection to the fatal stabbing was charged., police said.

As the Croydon Guardian reported previously, emergency services were called around 9.10pm on Thursday (July 11) to Brighton Road in Croydon with reports of a stabbing.

A spokesperson for the Met said that Mr Manning died at the scene at 9.50pm.

A post-mortem examination has taken place and the cause of death was identified as a single stab wound to the heart.

Police said a total of five people, all men, were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the stabbing.

On Saturday morning (July 13) the Met revealed that one of those arrested [D] Mason Bird, 18, of Old Lodge Lane, Purley, has been charged with GBH; violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was due to appear in custody at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court this morning, the Met said.

Four other males – [A] 18; [B] 20; [C] 17 and [E] 15 – have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Suspects[A] and [B] remain in hospital; [C] remains in custody; [E] has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in early August.

Detective Chief Inspector John Massey, who is leading the investigation, offered condolences to Mr Manning's family and called on residents to help police with their ongoing investigation wherever possible.

"This is a terrible incident which has resulted in a young man's life being tragically cut short," he said.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.

"We have made a number of arrests, and my officers and I will continue to work tirelessly to piece together what happened and to bring those responsible to justice.

"However, we cannot do this alone and I would call on the community to help us solve this heinous crime.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed what took place or anyone with information about those responsible to contact police immediately.
