Crack cocaine found hidden in a sofa has resulted in a drug dealer being jailed for more than three-and-a-half years.

Kent Police officers uncovered the class A drug at the Croydon home of Anas Bendarouch while they were arresting him for an unrelated affray alleged to have taken place in Gravesend town centre.

The 23-year-old, of Limes Road, pleaded not guilty to possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply but was found guilty following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.

He was sentenced at the same court to three years and seven months on June 25.

The court heard that Kent Police officers attended Bendarouch’s home after he was identified as a suspect for an affray committed in Gravesend on December 17, 2018.

The arrest was made on January 10 and a subsequent search of his home resulted in officers finding a large wrap of crack cocaine down the side of his sofa.

In addition to the drug, a set of digital scales and cling film were also located. Around £500 in cash was also seized.

The affray allegation was later withdrawn, however Bendarouch was charged with the drug offence the morning after his arrest and has been remanded in custody since.

Detective Constable Terry Hanlon, Kent Police’s investigating officer for the case, said: "Bendarouch wrongly believed he could make money by selling crack cocaine to people suffering with substance abuse in Gravesend and he has shown no regard to his culpability since.

"His lack of remorse is highlighted by the fact he opted to deny his offending, despite the clear evidence we had gathered against him.

"The sentence imposed is entirely appropriate and sends out a clear message the drug dealing will not be tolerated in Kent."
