The Transform Leatherhead project have urged residents to express their opinions about existing plans for redeveloping the town's High Street.

A spokesperson for Mole Valley District Council (MVDC), who collaborate on the Transform Leatherhead project, said that the open consultation process would take place Monday, July 1 - Monday, July 22.

This specific part of the consultation process for Transform Leatherhead will focus on "short and long term proposals for improving the High Street and showing in detail the wider transport options being considered to improve connectivity around the town," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Councillor Bridget Kendrick, MVDC Cabinet Member for Projects, urged the public to get involved and highlighted some of the expertise they had already been working with to draft the proposals to be exhibited during next month's consultations.

"We have been working with expert consultants Arcadis on the vital High Street Improvement study. In July we are inviting everyone to share their views on the proposed long and short-term options.

"The proposals have been put together through studies and engagement with a wide range of key stakeholders, including local businesses, residents, access groups and Surrey County Council," Cllr Kendrick said.

Transform Leatherhead was established as a partnership involving Surrey County Council (SCC), MVDC and Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (C2C LEP) as a means to redevelop Leatherhead.

Alongside the High Street, the town's Riverside Walk, plus sites at the Swan Centre, Bull Hill Park and Claire House and James House have been earmarked for redevelopment.

Cllr Kendrick added that residents who attended the consultations in July would have the opportunity to learn about key proposals involving transport in Leatherhead in particular.

"Alongside the consultation in July, we will be demonstrating how the traffic modelling work by experts WSP, has identified a shortlist of options to improve connectivity for traffic, pedestrians and cyclists in and around Leatherhead.

"These options will be taken forward in two ways – a detailed feasibility study and strategic and major road network improvements by Surrey County Council," she said.

The public consultation will run from Monday, July 1 to Monday, July 22.
