IT'S been a week that neither Ben Magowan nor Liva McGillivray will likely ever forget.

The Melrosian and Festival Queen led by example - with broad smiles on their faces - throughout a packed eight days of ceremony, tradition and fun.

From the wreath-laying at the War Memorial on the opening Sunday, all the way through to the family cricket the following weekend, Melrosian Magowan has been up for the challenge.

He's galloped ahead of a 220-strong mounted cavalcade, he's pedalled as part of an incredible 478 cyclists in the community bike ride, taken on Trump at the Fancy Dress, and carried out his ceremonial duties with pride and dignity.

Ben was a hit with the young and old during Friday's school and hospital visits.

He's been the life and soul of the party during the Community Barbeque, the Festival Ball and the Celebratory Dinner.

And he even managed two relay legs at the community sports on Saturday to help the Melrosians to victory.

Melrosian Magowan told us: "It's been an amazing week - one that I'll never forget.

"I have been so fortunate with the support I've had, it is something I'll always be grateful for."

Left- and Right-hand men Russell Mackay and Harry Fletcher were never far from the Melrosian's side.

And Ben's proud parents Brian and Ruth were with him all the way.

For Festival Queen Liva, it's been a whirlwind few weeks from her appointment in May.

But the 11-year-old daughter of Colin and Britt beamed with pride and excitement throughout her duties.

As well as the epic Crowing ceremony Liva was ever-present throughout the Festival week, in fancy dress, on her bike or racing around the community sports track.

And like Ben, she has performed her duties with distinction.
