Johanna Konta made routine progress through to the second round on home soil at Eastbourne today.
She defeated Dayana Yastremska, a qualifier from Ukraine, 6-2, 6-4 in their first round clash on centre court at Devonshire Park in the Nature Valley International.
Konta took the opening set with successive breaks of serve from 2-2 as the errors increased from her opponent, including a wildly overhit forehand drive volley which presented the British No.1 with a 5-2 cushion.
The inconsistent Yastremska made Konta work a bit harder in the second set, digging in to save four break points in the seventh game.
Konta, semi-finalist at the French Open, broke through again to edge 5-4 ahead and served out convincingly.
