A road closure in Claygate brought disruption to road users Friday (June 21) as Surrey County Council (SCC) apologised, warning of delays.

The Green, a busy intersection near the village's centre, was closed Friday as repair work was carried out by a team from private contractors O'Hara during the day.

An information leaflet produced by SCC said that the closure would be in effect between 9.30am and 4pm on Friday.

"The Green will be closed whilst we carry out our surfacing works.

"We will make sure you can get to and from your house or business when it is safe to do so.

"Please talk to a member of our staff on site if you need help – talking to our staff can solve most issues," a spokesperson said.

"There will be some noise but we will try to keep this to a minimum," they added.

In the advice sheet, SCC also urged residents to avoid parking in the area until the work was complete, saying: "It is essential to keep the road free from parked vehicles. Please park somewhere else otherwise your vehicle may be towed away to a nearby road."

SCC also issued an apology to residents in anticipation of likely disruption caused by the road closure.

"We apologise for any delays this work causes and thank you for your cooperation and patience," SCC said.
