Shocking figures have revealed that people as young as 13 and as old as 83 have been treated for knife wounds at St George's Hospital.

The data, obtained via a Freedom of Information request by the Wandsworth Times, showed how knife crime in the area has skyrocketed significantly in 2019.

Already 106 people have been treated for a stabbing or knife wound this year and 358 since the start of 2016.

Not even half way through the year, that 2019 figure is already more than any 12 month total in 2016 (88), 2017 (98) or 2018 (66).

The news comes less than a week after 18-year-old Cheyon Evans was stabbed to death in Tooting, and three other men were taken to hospital after being stabbed outside Claphan North station in a separate attack.

Tooting MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan said she had been left heartbroken by the news of Cheyon's death.

“As an A&E doctor, I have been with families while their children die," she said.

"The sound of a parent losing their child never leaves you.

“These young people lose their lives to senseless violence which could have been avoided if we had adequate policing, proper youth provision and gave our young people a sense of hope and opportunity.

“Our overstretched police are working around the clock to keep Londoners safe. They need our support to end this scourge of violence.”

The FOI also highlighted just how many men are victims of knife crime.

Of the 358 people treated, 310 of them were male, 46 female and two were listed as unknown.
