A wheelclamper on trial for double murder attacked a woman at a bus stop and then drove off laughing, the Old Bailey heard today.

Levi Bellfield, 39, of West Drayton, approached Irma Dragoshi who was waiting at a bus stop in Bath Road, Longford, at around 7.30pm on December 16, 2003.

The jury heard how Mrs Dragoshi, who lived in Hounslow in 2003, was on the phone to her husband when she was attacked.

Prosecuting Brian Altman said: "During the course of her conversation with Mr Dragoshi he heard his wife scream and the phone went dead."

Mr Altman said Mrs Dragoshi's husband called her back. "She told him she had lots of pain and she had been hit behind the head."

Bellfield denies attempted murder and a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent on Irma Dragoshi.

He also denies murdering French student Amelie Delagrange, 22, and gap year student Marsha McDonnell, 19, plus charges of false imprisonment and kidnapping of Anna-Maria Rennie and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy.

At the time of the attack Mrs Dragoshi, who is from Albania, told police a man approached her from behind and tried to snatch her mobile phone and then hit her on the back of the head.

She suffered from nausea, amnesia and was left with two black eyes and a lump on the back of her head. She is now unable to remember anything about the attack.

Mr Altman said: "The injuries were in keeping with a blow to the head with a blunt instrument."

He alleged that a friend and associate of Bellfield's, Sunil Gharun, watched as Bellfield carried out the attack on Mrs Dragoshi, who was 34 at the time.

Mr Altman told the court: "They (Bellfield and Gharun) had been in the Heathrow area driving in Bath Road when suddenly Levi Bellfield pulled over, turned the car headlights off, and turned off the engine. He then said watch this.' "Gharun saw Bellfield jog over to a woman standing at the bus stop and pull up the hood of his hooded top. Bellfield jogged up to this woman and grabbed her shoulder. Bellfield span her round and as Gharun saw it smashed her to the floor."

Mr Altman said he then ran back to the car and "drove off laughing."

He continued: "There was an element of bravado, showing off to Gharun and demonstrating his capacity for motiveless and wanton violence to a woman."

When Bellfield was interviewed about the attack he said he had no involvement but when presented with Gharun's statement he said, "great story," and claimed Gharun had attacked Mrs Dragoshi.

The trial continues.
