A points failure between Waterloo and Clapham Junction stations is expected to cause huge peak hour delays this afternoon.

National Rail said that the points problem meant trains could not use platforms 1-3 at Waterloo for 90 minutes, which affected South Western Railway.

"Network Rail, who own and maintain the railway infrastructure, have been advised of this issue and their engineers are on site to rectify the problem with the set of points," National Rail wrote.

"In addition to this, there was a broken down train near Queenstown Road, blocking one of the lines into London Waterloo.

"This has further reduced the capacity in and out of London Waterloo."

The disruption is expected to last until at least 10pm tonight.

Customers have been advised that if they require further information or onward travel advice to speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.
