Hundreds of litter bags were cleared this month by volunteers in Croydon's community spring clean.

'Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride' has seen a total of 215 volunteers clear 300 bags of rubbish.

During the month eight new 'Street Champions' signed up to help organise litter picks in the borough throughout the year, bringing the total up to 364.

Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride has been running since 2015 and has organised hundreds of litter picks across the borough.

Street Champions are supported by Croydon Council to organise litter picks throughout the year. The council provides equipment and support and helps to clear away the collected waste.

Councillor Stuart Collins, cabinet member for clean and green Croydon, said: “Our Street Champions are fantastic and make a real difference to their communities.

“There are hundreds of volunteers giving their time to help organise and run litter picks across the borough. We always welcome more people to join in and help spread the message of Don’t Mess With Croydon, Take Pride.

“The Great British Spring Clean is a great event that lasts for one month but our Street Champions support their communities with litter picks throughout the entire year.”
