A Eltham teenager has been jailed for a minimum of 10 years for stabbing a 17-year-old in an unprovoked attack.

Jordan Duignan, 19, of Philippa Gardens, was sentenced last Friday (April 12) to an extended sentence of 12 years, 9 months, of which he will serve a minimum of 10 years in prison.

On November 15 (2018) Duignan confronted the victim in Briset Park, Eltham, after he looked at him.

An altercation ensued, where Duignan punched the victim in the face and then pulled out a knife, stabbing him once.

As friends of the victim tried to intervene, he ran off to escape the attack. Duignan pursued him, catching him up and then stabbing him multiple times around his body, before running from the scene.

The victim was rushed to Kings College Hopsital, where he was treated for his injuries.

Duignan handed himself into Lewisham police station on Monday November 19, where he was arrested and interviewed.

The following day he was charged with three offences - threatening a person with a knife in a public place, possession of a knife in a public place and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He plead guilty to the second two offences at Woolwich Crown Court last week. The other charge remains on file.

Detective Constable Steve Brunt of the CID at the South East Command Unit, said: "This was a shocking attack in a local park in Eltham.

"The victim received multiple stab wounds in a completely unprovoked attack. He has received injuries that will stay with him for life.

"Violence has no place on our streets - I hope these convictions send a strong message that it will not be tolerated and those responsible will be arrested and put before the courts."

Detective Inspector Adam King, CID Lead for the South East Command Unit, said: “This was a violent and unjustified attack from Jordan Duignan, who intentionally used a knife in this unprovoked assault.

“It is through pure luck that the victim in this case has not received more serious, or even fatal, injuries.

“I would like to thank the witnesses who supported this investigation enabling Jordan Duignan to be brought to justice and face the consequences of his actions.”
