The "Round The Borough Bike" event is returning to Epsom and Ewell next month.

Now in its sixth year, the popular community cycling event is taking place on Sunday, May 12.

The cycling challenge follows an off-road well-marked and marshalled route of approximately 20 miles across some of the borough's scenic spaces and local nature reserves, including Epsom Downs, Epsom Common, Nonsuch Park, the Hogsmill and Horton Country Park.

In the 2018 iteration of Round the Borough Bike, around 200 people took part — with participants ranging from six to 82 years old.

The event is organized by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council (EEBC), while Surrey Police plan to offer a bike marking service for those participating and to members of the public who attend with their bikes.

Describing the event, EEBC said in a statement: "Round the Borough Bike starts and finishes at Horton Country Park with a staggered start from around 9.15am for keen cyclists and at 9.30am for those wanting a more leisurely experience.

"Off-road cycles are recommended. Participants who complete the route will receive a certificate in recognition of their achievement and participants under 16 years will receive a small medal."

EEBC launched the Round the Borough Hike and Bike challenge in 2014, to build on the legacy of the London Olympics and the borough hosting stage 7 of the 2013 Tour of Britain.

To take part, budding cyclists need to sign up first. You can do so at www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/rbhb , where detailed maps of the route and further information are also available.
