Charlton's Lee Bowyer has said why he believes fans are now seeing the best of Igor Vetokele.

Vetokele scored and assisted in their 3-1 comeback win over league leaders Luton Town on Saturday and Lee Bowyer believes the Angolan is getting better and better.

Having missed large parts of the season through injury, the 27-year-old netted just his second league goal at The Valley, but Bowyer feels people were expecting too much too soon.

“What you’re seeing is Igor getting fitter,” said Bowyer.

“Tuesday at Wycombe was the best Igor had played for me, and today he’s topped it.

“You got to remember he didn’t play much first half of the season, then he dislocated his shoulder and was out for three months and then got thrown in the deep end because Lyle (Taylor) was out, and Karlan (Grant) had gone.

“It was unfair to judge him, but I’m glad he’s fit now, and he’s looking like the player I’ve not really seen.”

Taylor Praise

Bowyer was also full of praise for Vetokele’s strike partner Taylor, who netted his 2oth and 21st goal in all competitions against Luton, and the manager believes he’s seen his game reach new levels after his summer move from Wimbledon.

“His all-round play has improved, he’s fitter, quicker, stronger.

“His awareness is better.

“His finishing hasn’t really changed much, he’s always been a good finisher, which is why we bought him here!”

The win takes Charlton to within three points of second placed Barnsley and Bowyer says they won’t let up in their quest for promotion, for themselves and the Addicks faithful.

“We believe we can win the next four.

“All we can do is concentrate on ourselves and if someone wants to give us a chance then we’ll be there.

“There’s so much positivity around the Club, I don’t see negativity here.

“Even when I took over last season, there was that togetherness coming back.

“Fans appreciate what the players are doing and the players appreciate what the fans are doing.

“I’m loving it and the fans are too.”
