Lee Bowyer was a relieved man after another ‘big decision’ that went against his men didn't cost his side in their 3-1 win over Luton Town.

A goal down, the Addicks boss believes goalkeeper James Shea should’ve been dismissed for a foul on Igor Vetokele on 30 minutes.

Latching on to a Dillon Phillips long-ball, the Angolan nipped ahead of the shot-stopper and was up-ended outside the box and received a yellow card, not red, for his infringement.

“Big decisions like that have cost us this season, it’s crazy,” he said.

“It was a bad tackle.

“If that was anywhere else on the pitch, by an outfielder, it’s a red card.

“Just because it’s a goalie it’s not a red.

“If Krystian Bielik, or Lyle Taylor made that tackle?! Naby got sent off in the first minute (against Wimbledon) for less!

“It was a red card!

“The reason why he didn’t send him off is because Igor had already taken the shot.

“If that’s the case, from what I know about the rules is that it’s an erratic challenge and the goalie wasn’t in control of his body, he’s sprinting out at 100mph and took Igor out.

“If Igor had already had a shot, then it’s even more a red card, he’s that late he’s able to get a shot off and then he gets whipped out.”

The decision ultimately didn’t affect the outcome of the match as Charlton went on to secure a crucial three points thanks to second half goals from Lyle Taylor (2) and Igor Vetokele.
