Charlton are under no illusions on the size of the task at hand as they welcome league leaders Luton Town to The Valley on Saturday says Lee Bowyer.

The Addicks are on an unbeaten run of ten games dating back to a 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood in early February, but in Luton they face a side unbeaten in a staggering 29.

The Hatters’ boss, Mick Harford-who incidentally beat Bowyer to the League One Manager of the Month gong for March, received plenty of plaudits from the Addicks manager ahead of the tie.

“For the runs they’ve been on, they deserve to go up,” said Bowyer.

“They deserve to be where they are, our run is good, but theirs is better, they score goals for fun.

“I can’t see them dropping out of the top two.

“I think the manager has to take a lot of credit there, they were in a good position when he arrived I understand that, but he could’ve change it around but he didn’t, you’ve got to respect him for that.

“I was hoping he was going to change things but he didn’t so for me he deserves a hell of a lot of credit.”

Despite the fixture consisting of two sides in the higher reaches of League One, Bowyer was practical in approaching the game as if it were any other despite knowing that any slip-up would mean that automatic promotion hopes were all but dead.

“It’s no more important than Tuesday’s game at Wycombe, or Saturday’s at Plymouth.

“Yes it’s important because we know we have to win all five remaining games, but it’s no more important than any other game, there’s still the same prize, three points.

“I want to go up top two, nothing’s changed, unfortunately it’s not in our hands.”
