Millwall are prepared to fight to the bitter end in their quest for league survival according to defender Jake Cooper.

Following Wednesday’s goalless draw with city rivals QPR, the Lions sit just two points above the relegation zone but crucially with a game in hand.

With as many as six sides fighting against the drop, Cooper insists that Neil Harris’ side are prepared to fight until the last game of the season when they visit fellow strugglers, Wigan.

“The manager said if it takes until the 90th minute at Wigan then that’s what it has to be,” he said.

“We’ll battle every minute for the remaining part of the season.

“When we get safe is down to how we perform and play in the coming weeks.

“We want to be safe as soon as possible but if it takes until then, then it takes until then.”

Millwall have six games to go this season, including three against promotion contenders, but Cooper insists that his Millwall side, on the back of a good run themselves, fear no one.

“We are full of confidence - we’ve got three clean sheets in four in the league and a great game against Brighton thrown in with that.

“We’re happy with our form and we go full of confidence to Sheffield United knowing we can get something there.”

Millwall travel to Bramall Lane to face a Blades side currently sat third in the table, despite Steve Morison and Cooper himself believing Chris Wilder’s side are the best side in the division they’ve faced, a challenge the centre back is relishing.

“Coming up against some of the best strikers in the division.

“It’s a good test for us.”

Cooper on Pearce

Millwall’s form has coincided with the emergence of Alex Pearce stepping in at centre half, and as captain.

The Derby loanee has shone at the heart of the backline and Cooper was the first to ring his endorsements.

“He’s a very good leader and has obviously played a lot of games at the highest level in this country.

“I made my debut way back at Reading with Pearcey.

“We know a lot about each other and certainly have been able to make it more solid in the last few weeks.

“It’s given us a base, and keeping clean sheets is massive for us.”
