Charlton won’t be easing up any time soon in their pursuit of promotion according to their captain.

Jason Pearce admits that the top two may have a healthy cushion over the Addicks in fifth place, but they won’t let that get in the way of winning their remaining five fixtures.

Following their 1-0 win at Wycombe on Tuesday, Lee Bowyer’s side are now four points from the Sunderland in second place after they could only draw with Burton.

“It’s going to be difficult for them,” he said.

“If we keep winning and they keep looking behind and see that Charlton keep winning, they know they’ve got to win.

“But we are four points off it, which at this point of the season is a decent gap but we’ll keep plugging away to close that gap.”

Lee Bowyer has often maintained that top two is not out of reach so long as they win all their remaining fixtures, a belief that is Pearce has taken onboard.

“He’s said to us all along we can get top two, drilling it in to us.

“We’re playing well and getting victories, but we need to keep our feet on floor, because if we take our foot off the gas the gas, we’ll get beaten by any team in this league.”

Travelling Fans - Thank You

One positive that Pearce has taken from his extended stint on the side lines is the appreciation for the Charlton following. The huge numbers which follow the side home and away hasn’t gone unnoticed by the centre back.

“Being on the bench I can hear them a lot more there.

“They’ve been unbelievable, they give us an extra push

“It’s great having them behind us, obviously now we are given them something to cheer about, and hopefully we can keep that going.

“We can’t thank them enough.”
