Nominations for nurses, midwives and nursing support workers at Epsom and St Helier hospitals are being invited as part of a special award ceremony.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is marking Nurses’ Day and International Day of the Midwife next month (May 8).

And, as part of the celebrations there will be a special event to “recognise the efforts of staff who have gone above and beyond for the people they care for”.

There will also be honours for a range of other categories – including mentor of the year, rising star, patient’s choice award and team of the year.

Chief nurse Arlene Wellman said: “Nurses and midwives up and down the country do an amazing job every day – whether that’s in a life-saving, emergency situation or in a quiet moment trying to make a patient more comfortable, we sign up to make a difference – and that’s what makes our jobs so worthwhile.

“That’s why, for our award ceremony this year, we want to hear from you! Voting has been opened up to public in the form of our ‘patient’s choice’ award – which allows member of the public who have been treated by one of our fantastic nurses or midwives (please also note this includes healthcare assistants and staff from community roles and therapies) to nominate them for a special award!

“At Epsom and St Helier, we really value the input of our patients, and are constantly working to make our Trust one of the best in country for patient experience. This is why we want to include our patients in these awards – our staff would be so happy to hear that they made such a lasting impact on someone they have cared for – suffice to say the patient’s choice award will certainly be very sought after!”
