Epsom Hockey Club celebrated after the Men's 1s team clinched the league title on Saturday (March 23).

The Epsom team's achievement of winning the Surrey / Hampshire League 1 title came with a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, their closest challenger, on Saturday at Old Schools’ Lane.

The Bournemouth side had beaten Epsom convincingly in their previous meeting in December, but this time Epsom presented a much sterner challenge, playing with assurance in both attack and defence.

Epsom went 2-0 up on the day, before being pegged back level by the visitors to set up a tense close to the game.

Ultimately Epsom held out and resisted a late dose of pressure, securing the draw and league title, and setting off jubilant scenes around Old Schools Lane at the final whistle.

EHC praised the team's achievements following the result, highlighting the hard work and dedication that had got them to this success.

EHC said: "This was a strong season with a hardworking side finding a winning formula through tough defence and some clinical counter-attacking hockey seeing 78 goals scored.

"The side has a really fun mix of players with a lot of youth coming through at the club; they will be looking to recruit to support a campaign back in the South League."
