People in Sutton are invited to “make a splash” and join a nationwide Swimathon this weekend, helping to raise money for two national charities.

Cheam Leisure Centre and Westcroft Leisure Centre, operated by Everyone Active with Sutton Council, are participating in World’s Biggest Charity Swim.

Taking place between March 30 and 31, this is being hosted to raise money for Cancer Research and Marie Curie.

The event has been running for more than 30 years and organisers say it has seen more than half a million people take part – raising £50 million for various charities.

You have the option of swimming 400m, 1.5k, 2.5k, or 5k as an individual. You can also swim 1.5k or 5k as part of a team.

Rebecca Eyles, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the annual Swimathon once again. Swimming is a fantastic way to improve your health and wellbeing and is accessible for all ages and abilities.

“The Swimathon offers a challenge for every level of swimmer and is a great way to support Cancer Research and Marie Curie.

“We look forward to welcoming swimmers from the local community to our swimming pool to raise money and awareness for these charities while getting active.”
