Police have launched a sax appeal after an opportunistic thief picked up a briefcase on a train at East Croydon - containing an £8,000 saxophone.

Images of a brunette woman have been released by the police in an effort to track down the person responsible, after the valuable woodwind instrument was stolen last month.

The woman was caught on CCTV carrying a large dark case down stairs at East Croydon station, and officers hope she could shed some light on the theft.

The incident was reported to British Transport Police at 8.30pm on Friday February 1, and they are urging anyone with any information to contact them.
