Sutton is celebrating Fairtrade over the next two weeks in libraries across the borough in a bid to help farmers around the world to earn a living wage.

Fairtrade Fortnight was launched on Monday (February 25), with the Sutton Fairtrade Community Group hosting a stall outside Sutton Central Library next month.

Members will be distributing samples of their products, such as chocolates and biscuits, leaflets, and discussing the benefits of what they produce.

There may even be a quiz for young people to get involved in, while posters will be displayed in the borough’s libraries to help promote Fairtrade during the next couple weeks.

Anne Dodwell, secretary of the Sutton Fairtrade Community Group, said: “We are very grateful to Sutton Council for all its support.

“Fairtrade helps farmers around the world to earn a living wage. They are entitled to a fair return on their products.

“By buying Fairtrade products, people are helping local communities with extra classrooms or improving their water supplies.

“That’s why people are prepared to pay a bit more.”

The Sutton Fairtrade Community Group's stall will be in Sutton Central Library on Friday, March 9, from 9am to 5pm.
