A stolen moped in Chelsfield prompted a huge police response yesterday evening.

The hour-long police pursuit started in Windsor Road just after 5pm before the bike was abandoned in Stirling Drive at 6pm.

The National Air Police Service tweeted that the suspect failed to stop for a Met Police dog van.

They reported a man was arrested for "multiple offences" after running into a house before the abandoned bike was recovered.

The Met Police confirmed an arrest had been made, but would not give any information on the person’s identity or why they were detained.

One man told News Shopper that two helicopters and eight police cars were involved in the chase.

He added there was "huge disruption" in the area.

"Many commuters returning form work witnessed the chaos," he said.

Reports on social media suggested police officers were seen leaving a home in Stirling Drive with evidence bags.

However, the Met Police would not confirm this.
