A Mitcham pub could soon be getting a "much needed" makeover.

A planning application has been submitted to redo the inside of the Kings Arms in an effort to "make excellent use of this currently underused property."

According to a document attached to the application, the proposal would turn the two, currently vacant, upper floors into a house in multiple occupation (HMO).

But that's not all.

"The function room and kitchen have clearly not been used for some time and are in a very poor state of repair," the application prepared by Valerie Scott Planning on behalf of Ashira Holdings read.

"The second floor is also in a poor condition and does not appear to have been recently used for permanent residential purposes or other type of ancillary use.

"The upper floors have not been used for several years and they are now in dilapidated condition."

This application comes shortly after the boozer was sold by the Ram Pub Company in 2018 to an unknown buyer.

But the application say that despite the drastic change upstairs, the pub itself will remain largely intact.

"The proposed development will not result in any reduction in the bar/seating areas inside the public house and the outside seating area will only be reduced by a minimal amount to be able to

provide an access to the proposed HMO," it read.

"The public house on the ground floor has now reopened under new management and it has been agreed that the darts facilities and pool table on the ground floor will remain."
