The Chinese New Year was celebrated in style as hundreds gathered in Orpington to ring in the Year of the Pig.

The Orpington Chinese Language School organised the celebration for the sixth time.

Mayor Kim Botting enjoyed the party held at Newstead Wood School and gave a speech about the importance of education and culture exchange between the UK and China.

Gigi Chen, the founder and headteacher of the Chinese language school, said she was proud of the lively show performed by the students.

She said: "This is no doubt the best Chinese New Year celebration events we have organised so far.

"Without the overwhelming support and help we received, we cannot possibly run this event so smoothly and successfully.

"We hope everyone enjoy the food, the show, the atmosphere of Chinese New Year.

"We will continue our commitment to promote the Chinese language and culture, to serve the local community, and to bring the very best language learning opportunities to our next generations."
