A man has died in Egham after a tree fell onto his car yesterday (Sunday February 18).

Surrey Police said Sunday evening that the incident occurred around 4pm when a tree fell directly onto a car containing the deceased and four other occupants.

Surrey Police said: "The collision, involving a silver Lexus, occurred around 4.05pm on the A308 Windsor Road at the junction with the Runnymede roundabout.

"One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene. The four other occupants in the car have been taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment for minor injuries."

By Monday February 18 the man's identity remained undisclosed.

The affected section of the A308 Windsor road was closed Sunday following the incident and remained shut Monday morning.

Travel services in Surrey reported delays and further disruption as the closure hit the morning commute.

Surrey Police, who attended the scene on Sunday, urged people to seek alternative travel arrangements while the disruption continued in the wake of the collision. They also urged anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and help with their ongoing investigations.

Surrey Police said: "The road is currently closed while emergency services, including ambulance and fire crews, deal with the incident.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, particularly anyone with dash cam footage who was driving along the road prior to the collision, is asked to contact Surrey Police straightaway on 101, quoting incident reference PR/P19038273."
