A man in his 70s who was killed after being hit by a car in North Cheam has been named by police.

Police were called to reports of a pedestrian in collision with a red Ford Focus in Malden Road at around 10.30pm on January 30.

Roger Jones, 74, from North Cheam, died at the scene.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said his family are currently being supported by specialist officers from the Met’s serious collision investigation unit.

The driver of the Ford Focus stopped at the scene and has been assisting officers with enquiries, he added.

No arrests have been made.

Officers are still appealing for witnesses to come forward regarding the incident.

Detective Inspector Fiona Craig said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this most difficult of times and we are working hard to establish the circumstances of the collision.

“Please contact us if you saw the incident unfold, or the red Ford Focus being driven along Malden Road prior to the collision.

“It took place not far from the junction with the A24 and we would urge you to share any information, or contact us with dash cam footage if you think you can help.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the serious collision investigation unit on 020 8543 5157.
