Kids in South Wimbledon will soon be able plant their own food alongside a place to play.

Work will soon begin at All Saints' Recreation Ground where raised beds and a community orchard will be installed.

The Leyton Road Centre, Uptown Youth Group, environmentalist Andrew Judge and the National Trust partnered together and are asking residents to come down this week to help bring this vision to life.

A spokeswoman for the National Trust at Morden Hall Park, said: "On February 16, from 10am-4pm, we will be organising the first All Saints’ Recreation Ground volunteering day, where members from the local community come together to begin the work on the garden.

"With members of Uptown, the youth group run from Leyton Road Centre, and local residents, the National Trust will be providing the tools and technical know-how to create a community garden.

"Building raised beds and planting trees for a community orchard will be an important first step in establishing this resource for all local residents.

"This will be the first in a number of community volunteer days, with the National Trust maintaining the garden through regular Saturday sessions with Uptown."
