Two men have been arrested and released on bail after a 51-year-old man had acid thrown in his face in an attack in Croydon.

The incident took place at around 12.19am on Saturday, December 1, in Surrey Street and left the victim with severe facial burns.

Officers were flagged down by a member of the public before racing to the scene where they doused the victim's face with water.

A Met Police spokesman said the victim's injuries remain potentially life-changing since the incident.

Police have arrested two men, aged 40 and 53, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with this incident.

But they were both released on bail to a date in mid-February pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Chris Dimmer of Croydon CID said: “This was a violent and vicious attack that caused serious injury and sight damage to the victim. I urge anyone who witnessed this incident or has information on concerning the identity of the suspects to contact police immediately.”
