An environment and heritage charity based in East Twickenham is calling for volunteers to join them on February 21 to take part in the first steps in the Marble Hill Revived project.

The project is looking to enrich the park's biodiversity. The Environment Trust is asking businesses to get involved in this project.

Volunteers interested in supporting this project are needed to plant saplings, which will enhance the hedgerows and create a more diverse hedge habitat to benefit insects and birds.

No gardening skills are required as the Environment Trust team will be there to provide guidance for volunteers.

Marble Hill is an English Heritage property set in 66 acres of riverside parkland.

This Palladian villa was built for Henrietta Howard, the mistress of King George II, when he was Prince of Wales, and friend and confidante of some of the brightest men in England.

The house and gardens were intended as an Arcadian retreat from crowded 18th-century London.

Its interiors have been restored and recreated, to now include a collection of early Georgian paintings.

The Marble Hill Revival project aims to transform Marble Hill House and Park into one of the best and most beautiful public spaces in London.

Berny Simcox, CEO of Environment Trust said: “Our volunteer projects bring people together to look after and enjoy the natural environment, green spaces and built heritage where they live.

"We are delighted to be part of the Marble Hill revival project and call on local people to join us on the volunteering day and get involved in this hugely worthwhile project.”

The volunteer planting day takes place on February 21 between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm at Marble Hill Park, Orleans Road, Twickenham.

Volunteers are asked to come along anytime during the day. Tea and coffee will be provided but volunteers should bring lunch, wear sturdy boots, old clothes and a waterproof coat.
