A man in his 70s has died after he was hit by a car in North Cheam.

Police were called to reports of a pedestrian in collision with a red Ford Focus at around 10.30pm on January 30 in Malden Road.

The 74-year-old man died at the scene of the incident and his family members are being supported by specialist officers from the Met’s serious collision investigation unit.

Detective Inspector Fiona Craig said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this most difficult of times and we are working hard to establish the circumstances of the collision.

“Please contact us if you saw the incident unfold, or the red Ford Focus being driven along Malden Road prior to the collision.

“It took place not far from the junction with the A24 and we would urge you to share any information, or contact us with dash cam footage if you think you can help.”

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has been assisting officers with enquiries.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the serious collision investigation unit on 020 8543 5157.
