With gin tasting and trips to watch Bohemian Rhapsody, it's clear to see why Barnes WI is still going strong after seven years.

The all-female group meet every third Monday of the month (except August) in Barnes.

Jan Morgan, who now has a position on the committee, moved to Barnes last year.

She said: “It has been a wonderful way for me to meet people in the area and get involved with the community.

“We have a very varied programme of events, and we are a very diverse and varied group. Everyone is welcome.”

On February 18 they will be meeting to celebrate their seventh birthday, with all welcome to come along for cake.

There are currently 50 permanent members, but for those interested in dropping in for a taster session, the first meeting is free.

There's a lot to look forward to on the agenda in 2019 with guest speakers such as 'The Highs and Lows of Life As A Stunt Woman', a 'Decluttering Expert' and a representative from the RNLI who will be talking about rescue operations on the Thames.

There’s jam and marmalade making in the Spring, Barnes Food fair in the Summer, and later in the year a project knitting and crocheting poppies for wreaths to mark Remembrance Sunday, with all donations going to the British Legion.

But as well as the traditional crafts there are regular cocktail parties and trips to exhibitions at the V&A.

Barnes WI meet on the third Monday of every month at the Upstairs Room of the Bull’s Head in Lonsdale Road.
