Sutton police have issued a warning after receiving reports of someone going around knocking on doors and impersonating an officer.

The door knocker is allegedly claiming to be a police officer and “following up” on a previous incident when a scam caller knocked on the same person’s door saying they were from Sutton Council’s trading standards team.

Police say both of these incidents are scams, and if they are to ever knock on someone’s door, then they will always have ID on them which they will present.

A spokesman for the force said: “If you are in any doubt about the legitimacy of someone who is knocking at your door do not let them in, and report any suspicious behaviour to police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
