The parents of a four-year-old girl from Croydon have launched an appeal to fund a new treatment to help her remain cancer free.

Jasmine was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma in January 2018, an aggressive cancer affecting around 100 children each year in the UK.

Since she was diagnosed, Jasmine has undergone extensive chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

Her parents, Tania and Ioannis are desperate to raise £236,000 to give her access to a clinical trial in New York, which they believe is the best chance of her remaining cancer-free.

“The fear of losing our daughter and not being able to protect her is the worst feeling in the world,” they said.

“We just want to be able to get our daughter through this so that she can live her life and one day be able to fulfil her dream of becoming a doctor, helping other people in need.”

Jasmine’s future is uncertain, as high-risk neuroblastoma is a particularly aggressive and complex cancer to treat.

Sadly, the disease returns in almost 50% of children and if this happens, less than one in ten will survive.

Her parents hope the Bivalent Vaccine clinical trial at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York will prevent the disease from returning.

The expensive treatment is not available on the NHS.

“If you feel you are able to contribute in any way, we would very much appreciate your help and be eternally grateful,” said Ioannis.

The family have teamed up with the charity Solving Kids’ Cancer to help them raise the funds and access the potentially life-saving treatment.

Stephen Richards, CEO of Solving Kids’ Cancer, said: “We’re here for families like Jasmine's and will do everything we can to support them to raise the funds required for treatment in New York.

“Neuroblastoma has high relapse rates and we must do everything we can to try and prevent the cancer from returning.”

Over the last year she has been in hospital for more than six months, often not allowed to even leave her room or even see her brother. During this time, her parents say she’s ‘been nothing short of amazing’.

Ioannis and Tania continued: “We just want to be able to get our daughter through this so that she can live her life and one day be able to fulfil her dream of becoming a doctor, helping other people in need.”
