More than two kilometres of underground cabling in Sutton has been installed as a £2 million power upgrade goes live in the borough.

UK Power Networks, which maintains electricity networks across London and south east England, has announced it has completed the works.

It forms part of its £600 million annual investment plans, as well as its £6.6 billion investment across eight years up to 2023.

Graham Ross, project manager at UK Power Networks, said: “The completion of this project represents a significant investment in the electricity network for local homes and businesses.

“This is one of a number of multi-million pound schemes that will be carried out across the south east this year to help ensure that essential electricity supplies remain highly reliable and that we continue providing a good service to the local communities we serve.”

The new cabling, which runs through Carshalton, was installed in stages by excavating short trenches to lay pipework and then pulling through new underground cables.

They were then connected to the existing electricity network, and replaces a section of cable that was up for renewal.

UK Power Networks, Britain’s largest electricity supplier, delivers power to more than eight millions homes in London, the south east and east England.
