The owner of a ginger and cream cat has gone to extreme lengths to be reunited with her beloved pet.

Amber, who is 11 months old, has been missing from her home in Sheepcote Lane near Orpington since December 4.

Owner Lindsay Johnson said her neighbours have been hanging up the family’s "smelly sports socks" on their fences to draw Amber to a familiar scent.

"It is unbelievable people would do that," Lindsay told News Shopper.

"The world can be horrible at times, look at Brexit and the division, but this shows how kind people who have never met me or seen my cat can be."

A Facebook page #FindAmberTheGingerCat has also been set up by professionals to help with the search and dozens of posters have been distributed throughout Bromley.

Finding Amber would be the "best thing ever" said Lindsay, who is working tirelessly to bring her home.

She added: "You go to bed every night and think you’ve done a lot that day. But when you lie down, she is still not back.

"Sometimes you think you are crazy, but I have not seen any news to suggest she isn’t out there."

Lindsay hopes Amber is cosy and is being well fed by a person who may not be on social media to see the appeal.

The anxious owner said the support of hundreds of people online and otherwise has kept her hopeful.

"People are so invested in this now," Lindsay said. "People have been sending me messages every day and night."

A reward is being offered for the safe return of Amber, who is neutered and microchipped, and was wearing a gold glittery collar with a bell.
