The deadline for nominations for an awards show recognising "amazing women", run by a Croydon woman, has been extended.

Roz Thornton has announced that due to overwhelming demand, the window for nominations for The Amazing Women Awards will remain open until Friday January 19.

She was inspired to launch the show in 2017 after noting the many women she came into contact with as a business coach and trainer weren't properly recognised.

“Despite the unprecedented interest to date - we’ve had nominations from as far afield as, Sri Lanka, Africa, US and Europe, due to the Christmas and New Year’s preparations, we’ve agreed to give everyone a little more time to get those nominations in,” Ms Thornton said.

“During 20 years working at the grass roots with communities in London, I learned that we still live in an unequal society and women are still bearing the brunt of it. This event may just positively change someone’s life!”

The Amazing Women Awards is held over afternoon tea at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Kensington on the March 30.

It recognises women who go un-noticed or acknowledged for the selfless work they do each day.

The event’s launch in 2017 was sold out weeks ahead. This year's awards will be hosted by Magic FM presented Angie Greaves.

Nominations closes on the January 19 for the following five categories:

  • Amazing woman
  • Amazing mum
  • Amazing woman in business
  • Amazing young woman
  • Lifetime achievement
