One of Croydon's leading nightclubs has announced it is to close after a final new year's eve party.

Bad Apple has been a popular venue since 2012, known for hosting nights across a wide variety of genres.

On Boxing day the club announced it will close from January 1 as the building has been sold on.

A spokesperson for Bad Apple said: "It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that NYE2018 will be our last night of trading.

"As some of you may have been aware, the building has been up for sale for a while and a buyer has now been found.

"We want to thank you for all your support over the years. We've had lots of laughs, made lots of awesome memories and met new friends!

"But most importantly it provided us with a place to be ourselves... Bad Apple was what we made it.

"We'd love to see as many of your beautiful faces as possible for our last few events!"

Open until 4am at the weekend, the club built up a reputation and loyal following by putting on nights devoted to rock, metal and dubstep, rather than purely chart music.

Whilst fans will be sad to see it go, events this weekend and on new year's eve offer chances to enjoy a Croydon institution for the last time.

The club has not disclosed to whom the building has been sold.
