The Mitcham Mint will be closed come the new year as it undergoes a massive makeover.

Owners Star Pubs & Bars and its operators North and South Leisure have said that the investment will "upgrade the pub throughout and give it a contemporary new look."

As well as redecorating throughout, the project will refurnish the pub and a new kitchen will be added.

But as part of the £75,000 redevelopment, the Lilian Road boozer will lose its name.

“We want to give the pub a new lease of life and make into a top quality local that the whole can enjoy," a spokesperson for North and South Leisure said.

"We look forward to welcoming people to the launch of the Vale at Streatham on January 25.”

The company said that the Vale name "harks back to Streatham’s past when lavender and watercress were grown in the vales or fields of the area."

Work will start on January 2 and the pub is scheduled to reopen on January 25.
