CCTV footage has captured an Amazon delivery driver stealing an expensive sink from the front garden of a disabled pensioner's Caterham home.

Mark Thomas was in his parents' Banstead Road home on Wednesday evening when he was altered to someone coming through the front gate by his springer spaniel Holly.

After no one knocked, he checked the CCTV footage on his phone, which is linked to a front door camera.

The recording showed a young man dropping a package onto the front doorstep, then making off with a £350 sink left in the front garden before driving away in a white van.

Mr Thomas was in the process of fitting the expensive item into his disabled mother Christine's wetroom.

"I couldn’t believe the cheek of it," he said.

"I'm pleased the camera was there, but we really didn't expect to catch this kind of thing.

"It was only there as I'm currently building a wetroom for my mother, who needs one due to her disability.

"She couldn't believe the gall of it. He's supposed to be delivering us something but he's stealing in the process.

"I've heard that these delivery guys don't earn a great deal, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is how they supplement their income.

"It makes you wonder how many other times this has happened to people."

Freelance couriers are hired by Amazon to deliver packages from depots to home addresses.

Ironically, the CCTV cameras themselves were from Amazon.

An Amazon spokesperson said: "This does not reflect the high standards we have for delivery partners.

"This individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages, and we've reached out to the customer to make things right.”

The company have since reached out to Mr Thomas, offering him a £50 voucher and compensation for the sink if it is not recovered.

Surrey police have been approached for comment, but are yet to respond.
