It’s that time of year again when the bins get full to the brim with rubbish after we throw stuff away following Christmas Day.

Gift wrapping, greasy or sticky food packaging, used crackers – the lot.

Although it’s not the most fun or enjoyable task, recycling and discarding all that waste which has built up on the day – or even leading up to it – must be done.

But beware the usual bin collection dates are not the same during the festive period – changing in the weeks beginning December 24 and 31, as well as January 7.

So instead of the usual day you put the bins out for collection, you’ll need to see when exactly they are scheduled for before normal service resumes on January 14.

What’s more is if you’ve signed up for your green waste to be collected, the council will also take away your real Christmas tree.

You’ll need to remove all its decorations and pots, leaving it outside by at least 6am on the day your brown bin is collected.

Sutton Council has published a list of the dates when the bins will be collected around the borough during the holiday season.

We’ve listed it down here so you know what to look out for.

The normal day is listed alongside the moved day in brackets, with the difference in days shown next to it.

Saturday garden waste collections and Saturday collections from flats will take place a day later than usual, the council says.
